From Test Cricket to T20
The first Test match was played in March 1877 between Australia and England in Melbourne, which Australia won by 45 runs. Test cricket — the five-day format — was the only international form of the game for nearly a century. One Day Internationals (ODIs) were standardized in 1971, with the inaugural Cricket World Cup held in 1975. Twenty20 was introduced in 2003, and the first T20 World Cup in 2007 (won by India) reshaped the sport completely.
Today, cricket's biggest tournaments are the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, the World Test Championship, and franchise leagues like the Indian Premier League, Big Bash, and The Hundred. Each format produces its own stars, records, and trivia.
Legends Across Formats
Sachin Tendulkar holds 34,357 international runs — more than any player in any format combined. Don Bradman's Test batting average of 99.94 is the most cited number in cricket trivia because it's nearly 40 runs higher than the next-best in history. Muttiah Muralitharan has 800 Test wickets, the most ever, with Shane Warne second at 708.
Modern greats fill the trivia bank. Virat Kohli is one of only four players to average 50+ in all three international formats simultaneously. Ben Stokes' 2019 Headingley innings against Australia is one of the most celebrated knocks of the modern era. MS Dhoni captained India to all three ICC trophies. Rohit Sharma's 264 is the highest individual ODI score.
How Our Cricket Quiz Works
Five questions per round, three difficulty levels. Easy covers the headline stars and major tournament winners. Medium gets into specific series results, individual stats, and the laws of the game. Hard targets first-class records, lesser-known nations like Zimbabwe and Ireland, and the deep history of Tests dating back to the 1800s.
All Test-playing nations are covered: India, Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan. Women's cricket gets its own questions, especially around the Women's T20 World Cup and the Ashes.
How to Win at Cricket Trivia
Memorize the World Cup winners — there have only been 13 ODI World Cups and a handful of T20 World Cups. Learn the all-time leaders for the headline stats: most Test runs, most ODI runs, most wickets across formats, highest individual scores. Know the Ashes results for at least the last 30 years.
Get comfortable with the IPL — it's become the most-watched cricket league in the world, and questions about IPL winners, top run-scorers, and famous auctions show up constantly. Finally, learn the laws and oddities: what's a Mankad, what's a doosra, what's the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method? Trivia loves a good cricket-specific term.
